Our mission: To empower ordinary citizens of Minnesota’s Third Congressional District to hold elected officials accountable.
Our guiding principles:
- A functional democracy requires that constituents hold their elected officials accountable throughout their terms in office.
- An informed and focused constituent message carries power.
- The actions of our group and our members must model the values of inclusion, respect, and fairness.
- An extreme and authoritarian agenda will take America backward and must be opposed.
Indivisible was inspired to help citizens around the country join together and help stop the president’s authoritarian agenda, specifically by holding each member of Congress accountable. Locally, our group is made up of people across the political spectrum, constituents in Minnesota’s third congressional district, represented in Washington, DC, by Erik Paulsen, Amy Klobuchar, and Tina Smith. We are all volunteers and residents. We have found that politics works best when we collectively hold our elected officials accountable for their positions and voting records—and we believe that’s never been more important than now.
Indivisible MN03 members want our representatives to be accessible, listen to constituents, and act in the best interests of the country and its people—not political parties or corporate donors. Our mission is to teach District 3 residents how to lobby our representatives in order to check executive-branch authoritarian behavior.
We are united by our belief in:
- free speech and a free press
- nonviolence, respect, and inclusion
- science and facts
- separation of church and state
- freedom of religion
- the value of immigration and welcoming all people into our community
- leaders who act with dignity, honor, and transparency
Minnesota Third District Indivisible (Indivisible MN03) is a tax-exempt social welfare corporation organized as described in Internal Revenue Code section 501(c)(4), and is operated exclusively to promote election-related education. This is a legal organization with a stated definition. We believe this organizational structure offers the best way for us to move forward, engage more citizens, and obtain authentic representation by the person we send to Washington to serve in the House of Representatives.
As a social welfare organization, Indivisible MN03 will develop and provide publications, workshops, and seminars to encourage broader participation in government and politics, and conduct voter education and engagement activities such as policy discussions and voter registration.
Indivisible MN03 is not affiliated with any political party. We do not make financial or in-kind contributions to a candidate, political party, or PAC, nor do we donate to offset the administrative or fundraising costs of any political organization. We do not cooperate with, consult with, or provide information to candidates or political parties, nor do we share participants’ contact information with any candidate, political party, or other entity.
Throughout our district, smaller neighborhood groups also inspired by the Indivisible Guide have sprung up. While we share the same set of federal representatives, these groups function independently from Indivisible MN03; they are free to pursue different priorities and agendas. Although we do not offer “umbrella” status to these groups, we are happy to team with them on events that support our own mission. Indivisible MN03 may cosponsor educational sessions with other affiliate and like-minded groups, including Indivisible National, other local Indivisible groups, and local nonprofit groups.
Indivisible MN03 will not be making any endorsements for the upcoming 2018 caucuses or primary elections; we want to keep our group unified. We do, however, plan to endorse candidates for the general election on Nov. 6, 2018, and will make those decisions and announcements later this year. The affiliate groups mentioned above may be making endorsements for the caucuses and primary, but Indivisible MN03 will not.
